How to watch IPTV on multiple TVs around your home

Lounge, kitchen, bedroom: how screen limits work, how much speed you need for more than one TV, and how to set up each room so everyone can watch smoothly.

If you want to watch IPTV on multiple TVs, the good news is that the setup is the same on every screen. What changes is the planning. You need a plan with enough screens for the people watching at the same time, enough broadband to carry every stream at once, and a decent connection in each room. Get those three right and the lounge, the kitchen and the bedroom can all watch something different without the picture freezing.

How screen limits work

An IPTV subscription limits how many devices can play at the same time, not how many devices the app is installed on. You can add the same login to a Smart TV, two Firesticks, a tablet and a laptop. Problems start only when more of them try to play at once than your plan allows.

When that happens, the extra device usually fails to start a stream, or the stream on another device stops. It is a common cause of what looks like random buffering in busy households: someone starts watching upstairs and the picture in the lounge freezes. Our IPTV service page lists respecting the screen limit as one of the key steps for stable playback.

Remember: a phone or tablet playing in the background counts as a screen. Close the app properly when you finish watching.

Choosing a plan for multiple TVs

Count the screens that genuinely watch at the same time, not the total number of TVs in the house. Many homes have three or four TVs but rarely use more than two at once.

Full details are on the IPTV subscription page. If your household regularly needs more than two screens at once, message support before ordering so we can advise on the best setup.

Bandwidth for several screens

Every TV streaming at the same time takes its share of your broadband. Use these per-screen figures and add them up for the screens that watch together:

  • HD: 10 Mbps minimum, 15 Mbps comfortable.
  • Full HD: 20 Mbps minimum, 25 Mbps comfortable.
  • 4K: 30 Mbps minimum, 40 Mbps or more comfortable.

So two Full HD TVs need around 50 Mbps to be comfortable, and a 4K lounge TV plus a Full HD bedroom TV need about 65 Mbps. Then allow for everything else: phones, video calls and game downloads. An FTTC line that delivers 35 Mbps can handle one Full HD screen well but will struggle with two; full fibre or a fast cable connection makes multi-room viewing much easier. Our guide to IPTV internet speed in the UK explains how to measure what you really get.

A simple trick when bandwidth is tight: let the main TV watch in 4K or Full HD and set the smaller screens to the HD version of a channel.

Connecting each room

The room with the router is easy. The rooms furthest away are where multi-TV setups usually fail. Pick the best option for each room:

Ethernet

Best for the main TV and anywhere you can run a cable. Smart TVs and most boxes have a port; Firesticks need Amazon’s adapter.

Powerline

Uses your mains wiring to carry data to a far room. Plug adapters straight into wall sockets and test the speed at the TV.

Mesh Wi-Fi

Places a unit near each TV for a strong 5 GHz signal. Ideal for older houses with thick walls or several floors.

For the settings that make Wi-Fi work well, including splitting the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands and giving TVs priority with QoS, see our router and Wi-Fi settings guide.

How to set up IPTV on multiple TVs

  1. Count your screens. Decide how many TVs or devices will genuinely watch at the same time, and choose a plan with that many screens.
  2. Check your bandwidth. Add the per-screen speeds together: 10 Mbps for HD, 20 Mbps for Full HD and 30 Mbps for 4K, then add headroom.
  3. Prepare each TV. Fit a streaming stick or box, or use the Smart TV’s own app, and connect each one by Ethernet, powerline, mesh or 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
  4. Install the app on each device. Install IPTV Smarters Pro or your chosen player on every device.
  5. Add the same login. Enter your Xtream Codes details on each device, exactly as sent, then wait for channels and the guide to load.
  6. Test together. Play on all the screens at once in the evening and check for buffering before a big night of viewing.

The login steps are the same on every device; the IPTV Smarters Pro guide walks through them, including where to find the app on Smart TVs, Firesticks and Apple devices. Using the same app on every TV means everyone in the house knows where the guide, favourites and catch-up are.

Favourites and settings on each device

Favourites, parental controls and player settings are usually stored on each device, not on the account. Set up favourites on each TV separately, and add a parental PIN on children’s devices from the app’s settings.

Common multi-screen problems

  • Second TV will not play: you have reached the screen limit. Close the app on other devices, including phones.
  • Both TVs buffer when used together: not enough total bandwidth. Lower one screen to HD or improve the connection.
  • Only the far room buffers: weak Wi-Fi in that room. Add powerline or a mesh unit.
  • “Invalid login” on a new TV: the details were typed with a space or wrong capital. Check the Xtream and M3U error guide.
  • Guide missing on one TV only: refresh the EPG on that device; and check the device’s time zone is set to London.

Multiple TVs FAQ

Can I watch IPTV on multiple TVs at the same time?

Yes, as long as your plan allows that many screens at once. Essential and Premium allow one screen at a time, and Supreme allows two. You can install the app on as many devices as you like; the limit is on how many play together.

What happens if I go over my screen limit?

Playback on the extra device will not start or will stop, and sometimes the stream on the first device is interrupted too. Close the app on one device, wait a moment and try again, or move to a plan with more screens.

Can I install IPTV Smarters Pro on several devices with one login?

Yes. You can add the same login to a TV in the lounge, a Firestick in the bedroom and a tablet. Only the number of devices playing at the same time is limited by your IPTV subscription.

How much internet speed do I need for two TVs?

Add the per-screen figures together. Two Full HD TVs need about 40 Mbps at minimum and 50 Mbps to be comfortable. One 4K and one Full HD screen need about 50 Mbps at minimum and 65 Mbps or more to be comfortable.

Can different TVs watch different channels?

Yes. Each device plays its own stream, so one TV can watch a live channel while another plays a film or uses catch-up, within your plan’s screen limit.

Is it better to use one streaming stick per TV?

For most homes, yes. A stick or box on each TV gives every room the same app and remote, and makes support easier. Smart TVs with a good built-in app work too, but older TV apps are often slower.
