How to watch IPTV on an LG Smart TV (webOS guide)
LG Smart TVs can play IPTV directly through a player app from the LG Content Store. This guide explains how to watch IPTV on an LG TV running webOS: which apps to look for, how to log in, the settings that help, and what to do if your model does not offer the app you want.
How IPTV works on webOS
LG Smart TVs run webOS, LG’s own operating system. Apps are installed from the LG Content Store, which newer versions of webOS may simply label Apps. Like Samsung’s Tizen, webOS does not run Android apps, so you can only use players that LG lists for your TV.
An IPTV player on its own shows nothing. It needs the login from an IPTV subscription: either Xtream Codes details (username, password and server URL) or an M3U playlist link. Ours are usually sent within minutes of payment by email or WhatsApp. Have them ready, along with:
- An LG account signed in on the TV, if the store asks for one.
- The latest TV software, installed from the TV’s settings.
- A connection giving the TV about 10 Mbps for HD, 20 Mbps for Full HD or 30 Mbps for 4K.
IPTV player options for LG TVs
Which players appear in the LG Content Store depends on your model year, webOS version and region, and the list changes over time. Search on your own TV to see what is offered. The common choices are:
| Player | Login method | Things to know |
|---|---|---|
| IPTV Smarters Pro | Xtream Codes or M3U on the TV | Available on some models and regions |
| Smart IPTV | M3U link uploaded on the developer’s website with the TV’s MAC address | The developer may charge a one-off activation |
| IBO Player-type apps | Playlist added online using a device ID or key | Typically a trial period, then paid activation |
| Fire TV Stick or Android box | IPTV Smarters Pro with Xtream Codes | Works on any LG TV with a spare HDMI port |
If you have the choice, IPTV Smarters Pro with an Xtream Codes login is the simplest, because live TV, films, series and the TV guide load automatically and stay in sync with your account.
Step by step: IPTV on an LG TV
Menu wording varies a little between webOS versions, but the steps are the same.
- Connect the TV to the internet. Open the TV’s settings, go to the network section and connect by Ethernet cable or 5 GHz Wi-Fi. Confirm the connection status shows the TV is online.
- Open the LG Content Store. Press the Home button on the LG remote and open the LG Content Store (shown as Apps on newer webOS versions).
- Search for a player app. Use the search icon and type “IPTV Smarters”. If it is not listed for your model, search for another compatible player such as Smart IPTV or an IBO Player-type app.
- Install and launch the app. Select the app and choose Install. When it finishes, open it from the home screen launcher bar.
- Add your IPTV login. Choose the Xtream Codes login if available, then enter your username, password and server URL exactly as sent, including http:// and the port. Players that use a device ID or MAC address ask you to add your M3U link on their website instead.
- Check everything works. Play a live channel, open a film or series and confirm the TV guide has loaded.
The first launch can take a minute while the channel list and TV guide download. If the guide stays empty, use the app’s refresh EPG option. Our Smart TV installation guide has extra detail for LG, Samsung and Android TV models, and the Smart TV compatibility guide for IPTV Smarters Pro helps you decide between the built-in app and a streaming stick.
Players that rely on a MAC address or device ID work slightly differently. When the app first opens it shows a code on screen. Write it down, go to the developer’s official website on your phone or computer, enter the code and add your M3U link, then reopen the app on the TV so it loads the playlist. Check the code carefully, as a single mistyped character is the usual reason nothing appears, and only use the developer’s own website.
Tips for a stable picture
- Prefer Ethernet. LG TVs have a network port, and a cable is the single best fix for buffering.
- On Wi-Fi, use 5 GHz and keep the router as close as practical. Wall-mounted TVs often have weak Wi-Fi reception.
- Turn off Quick Start+ if things feel sluggish. On models that have it, this option keeps the TV in a deep standby; switching it off forces a clean start each time. It can usually be found in the TV’s general settings.
- Choose the right quality. Pick Full HD or HD when your connection is under about 30 Mbps for this screen.
- Use arrow buttons for long lists. The Magic Remote pointer is handy for menus, but arrows are quicker for scrolling channels.

Troubleshooting IPTV on LG
| Symptom | What to try |
|---|---|
| App not in the LG Content Store | Update TV software and check the region setting; otherwise use another player or a Fire TV Stick |
| Login rejected | Re-type details by hand; check for spaces, capital letters, http:// and the port |
| Black screen on some channels | Restart the app and TV; try the channel on another device to rule out the TV |
| Buffering in the evening | Switch to Ethernet or 5 GHz; lower quality to HD |
| Empty TV guide | Refresh EPG in the app; check the TV’s date and time are correct |
| Playback stops when someone else watches | Your plan’s screen limit is reached; stop the other stream or choose a two-screen plan |
If you are still stuck, message our WhatsApp support with your TV model and the exact error. We aim to reply within 15 minutes.
When to add a streaming stick
A TV app is convenient, but it is not always the best option. Add a Fire TV Stick or Android box if your LG does not list a suitable player, if the app is slow on an older model, or if you want the wider choice of apps that Fire OS and Android offer. A TV Licence is required in the UK to watch or record live TV as it is broadcast, including through a Smart TV app. You are responsible for making sure your viewing complies with UK law and the terms of the relevant rights holders.
IPTV on LG TV FAQ
Can I get IPTV Smarters Pro on an LG TV?
It depends on the TV model, webOS version and region. Search for “IPTV Smarters” in the LG Content Store. If it is not available, use another compatible player from the store or plug in a Fire TV Stick.
What is webOS?
webOS is the operating system on LG Smart TVs. It has its own app store, the LG Content Store, and does not run Android apps from Google Play.
Why can’t I find an IPTV app on my LG TV?
App listings vary by country setting, model year and software version. Make sure the TV software is up to date and the region is set correctly. If there is still no suitable app, a Fire TV Stick or Android box is the reliable workaround.
How do I fix buffering on an LG TV?
Use an Ethernet cable or 5 GHz Wi-Fi, check you have around 10 Mbps for HD, 20 Mbps for Full HD or 30 Mbps for 4K, restart the TV and router, and lower stream quality if it continues at peak times.
Does the Magic Remote work with IPTV apps?
Yes. The pointer and scroll wheel work in most IPTV players on webOS, and the arrow buttons work as normal. Some players are easier to use with the arrow buttons for channel lists.
Can I watch on my LG TV and a second device at the same time?
Only if your plan includes two screens. You can install the app on any number of devices, but Essential and Premium allow one stream at a time, and Supreme allows two.
